On Love & Constancy
In 1979 Jadav “Molai” Payeng was a teenager surveying the damage caused by floods near his village. A large number of snakes had been washed on to a sand bar in the river, and in the absence of tree cover they died in the heat. The episode changed his life, as it inspired him to begin planting vegetation on the sand bar and create a sanctuary for wildlife.
Thirty years later a 1600+ acre forest thrives on what once was the barren sand bar. He has been at it all these years. What an astounding, beautiful example for us all. May it inspire us to ask the question, “what can I do?”
I am so grateful to this amazing man for his love, constancy, and heroism. Deepest bow.
